Nymex Daily Volume Crosses 1 Million For First Time

A daily volume record was set on the New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc., yesterday when 1,044,261 contracts were traded, surpassing the previous record of 996,088 contracts set on December 18, 2004.

Daily NYMEX Division volume traded a record 931,173 contracts, exceeding the previous record of 847,158 contracts set on March 3, 2005. This included a record 743,941 NYMEX Division futures contracts traded, which beat the previous record of 715,460 contracts traded on April 7, 2005.

Exchange President James E. Newsome said, "We are excited to cross the milestone of 1 million contracts traded in a single day. These daily volume records are evidence that the Exchange has continued to meet the investment community's needs for transparency, financial security, and flexibility."
