Nymex Breaks Second Consecutive Volume Record For Brent Crude Oil Futures

The New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc., Brent crude oil futures contract broke a volume record for the second consecutive day yesterday when 24,152 contracts were traded on the NYMEX-Europe Dublin trading floor, surpassing the previous day's record of 18,374 contracts traded.

Open interest at the close of trading yesterday also stood at a record of 22,808 contracts, surpassing the previous day's open interest record of 21,767 contracts.

Samuel Gaer, chief executive officer of NYMEX Europe, said, "The response of the marketplace to our initiative in Europe is impressive. Market participants have quickly pushed volume and open interest in the Brent crude oil futures contract across new thresholds, and we are confident that momentum will continue to build."
