NYBOT's World Sugar Market Continues Streak With New Volume And Open Interest Records

The World Sugar No. 11sm contract at the New York Board of Trade® (NYBOT®) continued its record-setting pace and set several new volume and open interest records on December 16, 2005:
  • A new options volume record of 51,768 contracts replaced the previous high of 47,170 contracts established December 1, 2005.
  • In open interest, the World Sugar options contract (symbol SO) reached a new record of 555,998 contracts, replacing the December 15 open interest record of 539,154 contracts.
  • For World Sugar futures (symbol SB) open interest, a new record of 526,031 contracts was established on December 16, replacing the previous record of 522, 253 contracts.
NYBOT’s World Sugar futures contract, also known as the Sugar No. 11 contract, trades from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (NY Time), and has four delivery months including March, May, July and October. The sugar contract calls for 112,000 lbs. of raw centrifugal cane sugar from 29 countries throughout the world.
