NYBOT Trading Volumes Continue Strong In July Year To Date, 12% Ahead Of Record 2004 Numbers

Trading volumes at the New York Board of Trade® (NYBOT®) continued their upward climb during July, with a total of 2,174,385 futures and options contracts traded on the month. Particular strength was shown in NYBOT’s Currency Futures complex, which at 182,375 contracts was up 39% vs. July 2004; the Index Futures and Agricultural Futures complexes were up 4% and 3% respectively on the month. July’s strong volume growth is on the heels of record trading in June 2005, the biggest volume month in the Exchange’s 135-year history.

Year-to-date (YTD) total NYBOT volumes through the end of July now register 21,299,235 contracts, up 12% vs. the same period last year. Also during July, futures open interest increased 11% to 1,011,494 contracts, the highest month-end futures open interest position ever reported.

Some July 2005 product highlights (all YTD trading volumes) include:

  • The Cotton No. 2sm futures (symbol CT) - up 23%
  • Sugar No. 11sm futures (symbol SB) - up 21%
  • The Cocoa options (symbol CC) - up 32%
  • NYBOT’s Coffee “C"® options (symbol KC) - up 25%
  • The Frozen Concentrated Orange Juice options (or FCOJ, symbol OJ) - up 20%
  • The U.S. Dollar Index® futures (symbol DX®) - up 26%
  • The Russell 1000® Index options (symbol R) - up 65%
