A record number of Sugar No. 11sm contract deliveries occurred today at the New York Board of Trade® (NYBOT®), the world’s leading “soft” commodity exchange. The new Sugar No. 11 delivery record of 22,429 contracts replaces the previous high of 13,234 contracts from March 2003.
The new record comes amid continued strong growth in the Sugar No. 11 futures and options volumes through the end of September, with 12,156,768 sugar futures contracts having traded, an increase of 17% over the same period in 2005. Sugar No. 11 options growth exceeded futures, with 2006 volume through September of 5,061,532 contracts, registering a 120% increase versus the same period in 2005.
The NYBOT Sugar No. 11, or World Sugar, contract calls for delivery of cane sugar, stowed in bulk, FOB (Free On Board) from any twenty-eight foreign countries of origin as well as the United States. The NYBOT World Sugar contract trades from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (NY Time), and calls for 112,000 lbs. of raw centrifugal cane sugar from 29 countries throughout the world.
