NYBOT also set many new trading records during the month of September 2004, including: a Sugar No. 11 (symbol SB) futures monthly volume record of 1,248,663 contracts and a Sugar No. 11 options daily open interest record of 397,217 contracts set on September 9; a US Dollar Index® (symbol DX) daily futures volume record of 18,273 contracts, set on September 7; a Russell 2000® Index (symbol TO) options monthly volume record of 4,602 contracts; an options total daily open interest record of 849,617 contracts set on September 9; and an Agricultural products total options daily open interest record of 818,566 contracts, set on September 9.
In addition to the trading records, NYBOT’s trading volumes continue at record levels in September, with a 36% increase over the same period from 2003.
Individual product volume increases during September include:
Frozen Concentrated Orange Juice futures (or FCOJ, symbol OJ) jumped 66% (YTD), and the options rose 205% (YTD).
Sugar No. 11 futures increased 43% (YTD) and options were up 81% (YTD).
NYBOT’s Coffee “C” contract (symbol KC) saw a 35% increase in futures activity, and the options (symbol KO) also rose 43% (both YTD).
Cotton futures climbed 14%, and the options were up 25%; Cocoa futures grew 15% during the month (YTD).
The U.S. Dollar Index futures increased 33%, while the options were up 110% (both YTD). Additionally, the Russell 1000® Index futures contract (symbol R) rose 41% (YTD) and the options 98% (YTD).
