NYBOT Futures & Options For Kids Tops Off Record Fundraising Year - CME’s Terrence A. Duffy And NYBOT’s Joseph J. O’Neill Honored At Gala Event

Date 24/02/2006

NYBOT Futures & Options for Kids, a New York-area nonprofit organization created by the commodity industry, raised a record $1,000,000 over the last year from New York Board of Trade® (NYBOT®) members, staff and those throughout the futures industry. The historic amount of funds, which will be awarded to over fifty philanthropic agencies in the tri-state area and Chicago, was announced at the charity’s twelfth Annual Dinner Dance fundraising event, held last night in Lower Manhattan.

“NYBOT Futures and Options for Kids raised a record amount of money over the last year, and this is something we all can be proud of because it means we have more to give back to all the children’s groups which so desperately rely on us for help,” said Fred Mascia, Chairman of NYBOT Futures and Options for Kids. “It’s important to note that we could not have achieved this goal had it not been for the generosity and hard work of the NYBOT members and staff and the New York floor community, including other exchanges and futures industry companies -- so to them, I say a heartfelt ‘thank you.’”

The nonprofit also announced the recipients of the 2006 Arthur Kaplan Award and the 2006 Patrick J. O’Shea Community Service Award at the event:

The 2006 Arthur Kaplan Award was given to Mr. Terrence A. Duffy, Chairman of Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

The Arthur Kaplan award is given to an individual in the futures industry who exemplifies outstanding dedication to the needs of children. Arthur Kaplan was a member of the New York Mercantile Exchange and the Commodities Exchange, Inc. His commitment to the needs of children grew with his leadership as Chairman of the CEC Children's Fund, to which he was appointed in September 1986. During his tenure as Chairman, Mr. Kaplan created an awareness among the New York futures community about the plight of less fortunate children, and it was his belief that in sharing in the wealth of the futures industry, "the kids" (as he affectionately referred to them) could be helped. His concern and compassion prevailed until his untimely passing in November 1993.

The recipient of the 2006 Patrick J. O’Shea Community Service Award was Mr. Joseph J. O’Neill, Senior Vice President at NYBOT.

The Patrick J. O’Shea Community Service Award is given to those in the futures industry who exhibit exceptional awareness and activity in promoting public service to the members of the futures industry. The award was named after Mr. Patrick J. O’Shea, a commodities broker who worked for Carr Futures and who was a member of various exchange boards, including the Board of Futures and Options for Kids. Pat’s untimely death occurred during the September 11th terrorist attacks and he is sorely missed by all who knew him.
