12.6 million transactions were registered on Euronext cash markets in November, a daily average of almost 630,000 up 9% year-on-year and in the year-to-date. The total of 138 million transactions completed in the year-to-date also grew by almost 9% compared to the same period last year.
Shares
Share trading saw an increase of more than 10% in November on the same month last year. A daily average of 600,000 transactions was registered during the month, bringing the average for the year-to-date to 559,000. There were almost 12 million transactions in shares this month in total, bringing the number of trades in the year-to-date to 130,7 million, up by almost 10% in the year-to-date.
Trackers
400,000 transactions have been completed since the beginning of the year in trackers, or 1,700 on an average daily basis: an increase of 20% year-to-date.
Derivatives products
Euronext.liffe, the international derivatives business of Euronext, has traded 650 million futures and options contracts in the year to date, equivalent to the same amount traded during the same period in 2002. Average daily volume amounted to 2.7 million contracts year-to-date.
Euronext.liffe traded 51 million futures and options contracts in November 2003.
Short-term interest rate products continued to show the strongest growth, up 42% year-to-date. Medium and long term interest rate products were up 48% on November 2002, led by the long gilt futures contract which set a new daily volume trading record of 244,619 on November 26.
Equity index products traded over 12 million contracts in November 2003, up 1% year-to-date, with the new FTSEurofirst 80 index futures setting a new daily volume record on November 27, of 8,101 contracts.
Commodity products have grown 16% year-to-date, with cocoa futures setting a new all-time annual volume record of 1.9 million contracts so far (breaking the previous record set in 1993).
