The Nasdaq Stock Market Inc. announced that shares of the Norwegian telecommunications company, Telenor ASA, began trading on Nasdaq today under the symbol TELN. The company also began trading on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

"We are happy to welcome Telenor ASA to our family of high quality, exciting companies that make up the Nasdaq market" said Frank Zarb, Chairman and CEO, Nasdaq. "Its reputation as an innovative provider of global solutions in the field of telecommunications is a prime example of the types of companies on Nasdaq that are having an important impact in the new economy." Telenor is the leading telecom, IT and media company in Norway. Its core business areas provide voice services, information, knowledge and entertainment to end users through a broad spectrum of modern communication services. These services employ a combination of wireless communication platforms, such as mobile telephony, satellite and broadcasting networks, as well as fixed platforms such as conventional telephony, Internet Protocol (IP) and cable networks. From its position as a national telecom operator, Telenor has expanded its area of activities to a broad range of products and services that build on and are related to electronic communication.

"Telenor’s IPO has been completed despite the difficult market conditions for telecommunications companies. Even though we could have wished for better market conditions, the offer has provided us with significant capital and our extended shareholder base gives us a strong platform to support our strategies for growth in the future" said Tormod Hermansen, CEO of Telenor.

The Nasdaq Stock Market lists nearly 5,000 companies, has a larger dollar volume, and trades more shares per day than any other market in the world.
