Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, together with the other five ministries and commissions, released the 2021 National Green Data Center List. The No.1 Data Center of China Southern Information Technology Center for Securities and Futures Industry (“Southern Center”) affiliated to Shenzhen Stock Exchange (“SZSE”) was the only shortlisted data center in the securities and futures industry. This marks the new headway made by SZSE in implementing the national strategy of achieving carbon peak and neutrality targets and making green and low-carbon transformation and development, which lays a good foundation for building a world-class data center with low-carbon and sustainable development.
With an aim to build a “world-class industrial information technology center”, SZSE established the Southern Center, a high-level, high-standard industry-wide digital financial infrastructure, which includes the No.1 Data Center put into operation in 2016 and the phase II project under construction. Upholding the idea of low-carbon and sustainable development since the commencement, the Southern Center has made continuous efforts in expediting technology improvement and transformation, upgrading the technology for low-carbon operation, enhancing the operation and maintenance ability, and stepping up the training of professional technical personnel. In this way, it has promoted efficient and energy-saving operation in all aspects and established a relatively complete low-carbon and sustainable operation and maintenance management system. At present, the No. 1 Data Center of the Southern Center has about 5,000 standard 3kW cabinets. While ensuring safe and reliable operation, the Center has decreased PUE (power usage effectiveness), an energy efficiency indicator, to as low as 1.32, well below the design indicator of 1.6. Statistics show that this cut around 7.44 million kWh of electricity use in 2021. Moreover, the Southern Center has also passed the Uptime Institute M&O international certification with excellent scores, and obtained the “national A-level data center certification”, “data center energy-saving certification”, “energy measurement review certification”, among others.
Next, SZSE will keep up with the development trend of green data centers. Centering on the new development ideas of “innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing”, we will further improve the low-carbon and sustainable operation and maintenance management level and energy use efficiency of the Southern Center, enhance its core competitiveness in every aspect, and build a new-generation digital financial infrastructure with safe, green and sustainable development.
