New Zealand Financial Markets Authority Welcomes New Zealand Anti-Scam Alliance

Date 10/07/2025

The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) – Te Mana Tatai Hokohoko - welcomes the formation of the joint operational partnership to tackle scams, the New Zealand Anti-Scam Alliance.

FMA Executive Director, Licensing and Conduct Supervision Clare Bolingford, said: “Collaboration is a vital factor in the fight against scams. We look forward to playing our part in the Alliance.”

Disrupting scam activity is one of the FMA’s regulatory priorities, in order to maintain confidence in New Zealand’s financial markets sector, she said.

“We want investors and consumers to make good decisions, know their rights and know how to protect themselves.

“The FMA works closely to share intelligence and disrupt investment scams with other local and international regulators and cyber safety agencies such as NCSC. We support the Alliance and consider this Alliance a significant move forward in a co-ordinated New Zealand response to scams.”

For the 12 months to 30 June 2025, FMA have issued 110 new warnings alongside multiple updates to existing warnings.

Alongside the warning itself, the FMA identifies hundreds of websites to be wary of and FMA has taken various disruption action on these listed sites and their related content.

Our warnings are shared widely through FMA’s website, social media channels, to participants in finance industry and via the International Securities & Commodities Alerts Network (I-SCAN) portal.
