New York Stock Exchange Resumes Trading All Listed Stocks After Connectivity Loss

Date 08/06/2001

The NYSE resumed trading in listed stocks at 11:35 am (EST). Trading was halted at 10:10am (EST) due to a connectivity problem between data sites and the Exchange that impacted primarily small order delivery to approximately half the trading floor.

"We could have continued trading with other than our systemic traffic, but did not feel this was fair particularly to the retail investor, " said Dick Grasso, NYSE Chairman and CEO.

On Oct. 26, 1998, the Exchange halted trading between 1:16pm and 2:15 due to a similar loss in systems connectivity.
