New York Stock Exchange Announces 2000 Financial Results

The New York Stock Exchange reported revenue of $815.3 million and net income of $72.9 million in 2000, compared with revenue of $735.5 million and net income of $75.2 million in 1999.

For fourth-quarter 2000, the Exchange reported revenues of $208.7 million and a net loss of $291,000. This compares with $184.3 million in revenue and $763,000 net loss for the same period in 1999.

In 2000, 122 companies joined the Exchange, compared with 151 in 1999. In fourth-quarter 2000, 38 companies joined the NYSE compared with 40 companies in the fourth quarter of 1999.

Average daily trading volume for 2000 was 1.04 billion shares worth $43.9 billion, compared with 809.2 million shares worth $35.5 billion in 1999. For fourth-quarter 2000, average daily volume was 1.14 billion shares worth $44.5 billion, compared with 889.2 million shares worth $36.6 billion in the same period last year.
