Exchange–wide volume of 911,393 futures and options contracts on October 13 surpassed the previous record of 901,756 futures and options contracts set on September 22. Total Exchange futures volume was 736,758 contracts, exceeding the previous record of 733,854 contracts set on January 15, 2004.
Exchange President James E. Newsome said, "The latest trading records underscore the role of the Exchange in providing market participants with the opportunities to manage their energy and metals price risk in the current volatile market environment, while providing the financial protection of the Exchange clearinghouse."
