Gold futures reached 2,018,847contracts traded, surpassing the previous record of 1,852,650 contracts traded in November 2005.
The silver options contract also set a monthly volume record of 197,390 contracts traded in January. The previous record of 189,045 contracts was set in April 1987.
Exchange President James E. Newsome said, "These records indicate the industry's preference for the liquidity and financial integrity provided by the Exchange. We are very pleased with last month's record volume activity."
