New York Mercantile Exchange Donates More Than $175,000 For Tsunami Relief

The New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc., today announced that it will contribute $176,168 for tsunami relief efforts.

The funds will be split between Save the Children and Direct Relief International to protect orphaned children and to deliver medical supplies, surgical equipment, and establish emergency clinics and temporary shelters in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, the Maldives Islands, and India.

Members and staff from the New York Mercantile Exchange and the New York Board of Trade helped raise $38,084 on Friday, January 14, 2005, when the New York Mercantile Exchange Charitable Foundation hosted a dress–down day for tsunami victims. The Foundation matched the funds raised and the Exchange contributed an additional $100,000.

Exchange Chairman Mitchell Steinhause said, "The New York Mercantile Exchange joins the global relief effort in providing aid to tsunami victims in Asia. By supporting medical relief and assistance to children, we hope to help those most in need in the wake of this terrible tragedy."
