New York Mercantile Exchange Daily Volume Nears 1 Million For First Time

A daily volume record was set on the New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc., yesterday when 987,354 contracts were traded, surpassing the previous record of 911,393 contracts, set on October 13.

A daily volume record was also set for options trading, with 338,111 contracts topping the March 7, 2002 record of 232,908 contracts traded on March 7, 2002. NYMEX Division volume also set a daily record of 837,067 contracts, surpassing the previous record 820,506 contracts set on March 7, 2002.

Exchange President James E. Newsome said, "These daily volume records, along with the annual and monthly records announced yesterday, reflect the escalating success that the Exchange is having in providing a broad range of innovative products and services that serve our customers needs for greater liquidity, transparency, security, and efficiency in today's most dynamic markets."
