New York Mercantile Exchange: COMEX Division Breaks 16-Year Annual Trading Records; Copper Futures Volume Sets Annual Mark

COMEX Division futures volume broke a 16-year annual record and copper futures set an annual volume record during the past few trading sessions on the New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc.

Through the end of trading yesterday, COMEX Division futures volume totaled 17,980,148 contracts, breaking the previous annual record of 17,884,617 contracts set in 1987. Copper futures volume of 2,867,315 contracts through the end-of-day exceeded the annual record of 2,856,641 contracts set in 2001.

COMEX Division futures and options volume totaled 21,554,095 contracts as of November 17, breaking the annual record of 21,495,598 contracts set in 1987.

COMEX Division options volume has surpassed its annual record since October 3, with 4,515,452 contracts through the end-of-day yesterday exceeding the yearly record of 3,703,215 contracts set in 1999.

The COMEX Division of the Exchange offers trading in futures and options contracts for gold, silver, copper, and aluminum.

Exchange President J. Robert Collins, Jr., said, "The strong performance of metals futures and options contracts this year demonstrates the level of confidence that market participants across the board put in the risk management services and financial integrity of the Exchange."
