New York Mercantile Exchange Clears 6 Millionth Contract Through NYMEX ClearPort<SUP><SMALL> sm </SUP></SMALL>

The New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc., announced that the 6 millionth off-Exchange contract was posted for clearing on Monday through the NYMEX ClearPort sm clearing website.

Since the inception of clearing services for off-Exchange transactions on May 31, 2002, the equivalent of 123.1 million megawatt hours of electricity, 14.23 quadrillion British thermal units (Btus) of natural gas, 87.8 million barrels of crude oil and refined products, and 3.2 million tons of coal have been cleared through the Exchange clearinghouse, with a notional value of approximately $72.3 billion. More than 300 companies are registered to clear trades from a product slate of 66 energy contracts.

Open interest as of the close of business Friday was 15.4 million megawatt hours of electricity, 2.34 quadrillion Btus of natural gas, 12.4 million barrels of crude oil and refined products, and 1.0 million tons of coal.

Exchange President J. Robert Collins, Jr., said, "We are extremely pleased by the response of market participants to the products offered for clearing through NYMEX ClearPor sm . It is gratifying to see the growth of the system, which has cleared 1 million contracts since the end of September alone."
