New Single-Day Volume Records Established At CBOE, CFE And C2 Options Exchange - CBOE Volume Tops 10 Million Contracts For Third Time In History - VIX Volume Moves Higher

CBOE Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: CBOE) today announced that several all-time, single-day volume records were established at Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), CBOE Futures Exchange (CFE) and C2 Options Exchange (C2) on Friday, August 5.

Friday's reported daily volume records for CBOE Holdings exchanges include:

  • At CBOE, a record total of 10,822,621 contracts changed hands today, topping the previous record of 10,571,569 contracts traded on May 6, 2010.
  • CBOE Futures Exchange posted record volume on two consecutive days. Today, a record 152,133 contracts traded, surpassing 137,508 contracts traded on August 4, 2011.
  • C2 Options Exchange - the company's alternative all-electronic market - also posted two consecutive days of record volume. Today, a record 529,017 contracts traded, beating 462,256 contracts traded on August 4, 2011.

Friday's product-specific reported daily volume records include:

  • Volume in CBOE Volatility Index® (VIX®) options at CBOE established a record 1,194,468 contracts, surpassing 1,153,602 contracts traded on March 15, 2011.
  • Volume in futures on the CBOE Volatility Index at CFE posted record volume on two consecutive days. Today, a record 152,067 contracts changed hands, beating 137,132 contracts traded on August 4, 2011.

In addition, on Thursday, August 4, total ETF options volume at CBOE reached a new all-time high of 3,963,875 contracts, beating 3,528,232 contracts traded on May 20, 2010.
