New Singapore Commodity Exchange Chairman And Board Of Directors

The Singapore Commodity Exchange (SICOM) is pleased to announce the election of Mr Patrick Hays as the new Chairman of the SICOM Board of Directors with effect from 1 July 2003. Mr Hays is the Managing Director of Societe des Matieres Premieres Tropicales Pte Ltd (SMPT) a company of the Michelin Group. SMPT purchases all the natural rubber for the parent company Michelin that has a global tyre market share of about 20%.

Mr Huang Thiay Sherng has been re-elected as the Deputy Chairman of the SICOM Board of Directors. Mr Huang is the General Manager (Rubber Operations) of the Lee Rubber Group of Companies. The Lee Rubber Group, which is one of the largest natural rubber producers in the world, owns rubber plantations and factories in Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Exchange is also pleased to welcome Mr Ronny CT Tan as a SICOM Director nominated by International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, the regulator of SICOM. Mr Tan is the Chief Country Officer & General Manager of Deutsche Bank AG, Singapore Branch.

The composition of the new SICOM Board of Directors with effect from 1 July 2003 up to the next SICOM's Annual General Meeting is listed in Annex 1.

Mr Victor Liew and Mrs Tan Seok Lee have completed their terms as Chairman and Second Deputy Chairman of the SICOM Board of Directors respectively on 30 June 2003. Mr Liew, a Corporate Adviser of Singapore Technologies Pte Ltd was the Chairman from July 1999 to 30 June 2003 while Mrs Tan, a Director of IE Singapore was the Second Deputy Chairman from August 2000 to 30 June 2003.

Mr Victor Liew will continue his involvement in the development of SICOM as an Advisor of the SICOM Board. He will join Mr David Chin, an Executive Director of Singapore Business Federation as a member of SICOM's Advisory Panel. The Panel's role is to advise the Board on policy, development and technical issues affecting the exchange.
