The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) today announced the appointments of Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi and Dato' Alizatul Khair Osman Khairuddin as Board Members for a two-year term, effective 15 August 2023.
The Board, appointed by the Minister of Finance, is responsible for monitoring the overall governance of the SC and has oversight of its regulatory and developmental mandates.
The SC Chairman, Dato’ Seri Dr. Awang Adek Hussin welcomed the new appointments to the SC Board. “Their diverse backgrounds will bring fresh perspectives and ensure a wellrounded approach to decision-making and oversight,” he said.
“With the addition of Dato’ Mohammad Faiz and Dato’ Alizatul, the SC Board will comprise a more diverse group of professionals with extensive knowledge in various sectors,” he said.
Dato’ Mohammad Faiz has over 38 years of experience in the audit and business advisory services in Malaysia and the United Kingdom. He is the retired partner and former Executive Chairman of PwC Malaysia and had previously served as President of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and Chairman of the Malaysia Accounting Standards Board.
Dato’ Alizatul has over 40 years of experience in the legal and judicial services, having served as Judicial Commissioner and Judge in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court. She was appointed Commissioner in the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) by Yang di-Pertuan Agong in November 2020.

DATO’ MOHAMMAD FAIZ AZMI
Faiz is currently the former Executive Chairman of PwC. Faiz has over 38 years of experience in the audit and business advisory services in Malaysia and the UK. He was the leader of PwC's Global Islamic Finance Team practice from 2007 to 2012. He was also PwC's Malaysia's Financial Services Leader and joint Head of Audit. He had also led the ESG and Shariah Investing part of PwC's Sustainability and Climate Change practice in Malaysia.
Much of his recent work has been with the Federal and State Governments involving work related to Accrual Accounting, acting as an Administrator for an airline and certain government entities and being part of the Federal Government National Covid vaccine rollout. He has also been involved in the financial restructuring of government agencies as well as investigations.
Faiz is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, a Fellow of ICAEW and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has held the post of President of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, Chairman of the Malaysia Accounting Standards Board and Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) City Group Chairman. He is currently the ICAEW member on Council for Malaysia.
Faiz was educated in Malaysia and UK and read law at the University of Durham before being called to the English Bar. He is an alumni of Lincoln's Inn and a member of the Inns of Court of Malaysia. He is a member of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants England and Wales. He was conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Dato’, which carries the title Dato’ in 2013 by the Sultan of Selangor. He was conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctorate of Laws by the University of Nottingham in July 2016.
DATO' ALIZATUL KHAIR OSMAN KHAIRUDDIN
Dato' Alizatul Khair Osman Khairuddin graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Malaya in 1976 and a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics, University of London, United Kingdom, in 1982.
Dato' Alizatul Khair Osman Khairuddin has extensive experience in the legal and judicial fields since 1976. She began her career as a Legal Advisor at the Ministry of Education in 1984, and then as the Deputy Head of the Legal Division at the Attorney General's Department and Penang Legal Advisor at Penang Legal Advisor's Office in 1995.
Dato' Alizatul Khair Osman Khairuddin was later appointed a Judicial Commissioner at the Shah Alam High Court (2003), Judge at the Shah Alam High Court (2004), Judge at the Kuala Lumpur High Court (2008), Judge at the Court of Appeal (2011) and Judge at the Federal Court (20172019).
Her appointment as an EAIC Commissioner has been approved by Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVI, effective from 1 November 2020 for a period of 3 years.
