FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index:

New RTS Index Calculation Methodology Approved

Date 30/09/2003

On September 26th, 2003, the RTS Board of Directors has approved the proposal submitted by the RTS Information Committee to change existing methodology of the RTS Index calculation.

In order to properly reflect the situation on the market, the following additional criteria for selecting transactions were introduced:

  • For a transaction to be used in index calculation, the lot size should not be less than 1,000 US dollars;
  • The price deviation for stocks used in index calculation with weight of more than 1% should not exceed 15; for stocks with weight of less than 1% the deviation should not exceed 25%. A stock's weight is calculated as the share of the stocks' market capitalization in the total market capitalization of stocks used in the RTS Index calculation;
  • If during the last ten trading days a given stock used in calculating of the RTS Index did not trade, the best bid for the security is used, provided there are no less than three bids registered for this stock;
  • To prevent errors, new control system is being introduced allowing for recalculation of the index value, should a technical problem or force majeur occurs.

The RTS Indices are computed by dividing the total market capitalization of the Index component stocks as of current date by the total market capitalization of the same stocks as of initial date multiplied by the Index value as of initial date. Market capitalization is calculated based on the number of shares outstanding and market price of securities. The RTS Index and RTS Technical Index are calculated based on the list of constituent stocks formed from securities selected by the RTS Information Committee based on expert advice. Apart from the RTS Index the RTS Stock Exchange calculates the Composite Stock Index, with the list of constituents taken from the RTS Stock Exchange quotation lists and is being reviewed every time a quotation list changes.
