Options on DIAMONDS debuted at CBOE on May 20, 2002, and through the end of September, a total of 2,344,881 DIA options contracts have been traded at CBOE. For the month of September, average daily volume in DIA options was 33,699 contracts traded.
DIAMONDS are shares in an exchange-traded fund designed to track the performance of the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA). Options on DIAMONDS provide investors with exposure to the DJIA in one transaction that can also offer the benefit of limited risk. CBOE also offers Options on the Dow (DJX) which are based on 1/100th the value of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Buyers of DIA or DJX options have pre-determined risk that is limited to the amount of premium paid.
