Two new commissioners – Noordin Nanji and Doug Seppala – have been appointed to the board of the BC Securities Commission (BCSC).

“Noordin and Doug bring valuable knowledge and insight that will strengthen our ability to protect investors and uphold market integrity,” said Brenda Leong, the BCSC’s Chair and CEO. “Their extensive securities law expertise and understanding of financial markets will be essential as we navigate the evolving challenges and opportunities in today’s investment market."

Until his retirement in 2022, Noordin Nanji was a partner at Stikeman Elliott LLP where he led the Vancouver Corporate Group and served as a member of the firm’s National Partnership Board. His practice primarily focused on cross-border M&A, strategic transactions, technology and corporate governance. Before joining Stikeman Elliott, Noordin served as a senior executive with global fuel cell leader Ballard Power Systems. Before joining Ballard, Noordin was a partner at Lang Michener Lawrence & Shaw (now McMillan), where he led a significant capital markets and securities practice. Noordin received his law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto.

Doug Seppala was a partner and managing partner of law firm DuMoulin Black LLP until his retirement in 2019, after which he served as special counsel to the firm. His legal practice focused on private and public debt and equity offerings, compensation plans, mergers and acquisitions, shareholder disputes including proxy contests, complex contractual matters, board governance and special committee advice. He has been an officer or director of several public and private companies. Doug received his law and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from the University of British Columbia.
