New Appointments At Bursa Malaysia

Bursa Malaysia Berhad would like to announce the following new appointments which came into effect on 1 November 2004:
  • Mohd Ridzal Sheriff, Head, Group Business Development
Ridzal, former Head, Clearing, Settlement and Depository, Bursa Malaysia will be responsible for business development initiatives which include the marketing and communications functions of the exchange group in his new role as Head, Group Business Development. He will oversee the Institutional and Retail Investor Marketing, Issuer Marketing, Strategic Initiatives, External Affairs and Public Relations units.

Ridzal, 39, has over 13 years experience in the capital market industry, having served as General Manager of Bursa Malaysia Securities Clearing, formerly known as Securities Clearing and Automated Network Services Sdn Bhd (SCANS), General Manager of Bursa Malaysia Depository, formerly known as Malaysian Central Depository (MCD), and Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Clearing, then known as Malaysian Derivatives Clearing House Berhad (MDCH).

His past experience in corporate advisory services with a merchant bank, investments for a public listed company, international sales for a stockbroking company and managing a futures broking company gives him an expanded knowledge and expertise in the capital market industry.

  • Cheah Sin Keat, Head, Clearing, Settlement & Depository
Cheah, former Head of Operations Risk Management, Clearing, Settlement and Depository Group, Bursa Malaysia, will be responsible for the development of the clearing, settlement and depository business and the maintenance of an orderly clearing and settlement for all trades on Bursa Malaysia.

Cheah, 42, has over 19 years experience in risk management and operations of the capital market. Under secondment from the Securities Commission, Cheah assisted in the establishment of Malaysian Derivatives Clearing House (MDCH), now known as Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Clearing and became its Deputy Chief Executive Officer. Cheah started his career with Bank Negara Malaysia in the Economics Department and later, the Exchange Control Department. Cheah moved on to the Securities Commission, undertaking the responsibility of developing the derivatives market and promoting risk management in the capital market.

  • Dr. Azmir Mohd Agel, Head Offshore Market
Dr Azmir, 43, is the new Head, Offshore Market, responsible for the development of business and services of Bursa's offshore exchange, the Labuan International Financial (LFX), as its General Manager.

Dr Azmir, brings with him over 20 years experience in the financial services, venture capital industry and corporate advisory services, having served as Director of Labuan Offshore Financial Services Authority (LOFSA), Chief Operating Officer, Banyan Ventures and General Manager, MTDC Capital.

With expansive knowledge and expertise in offshore operations and financial services and products for the offshore market, Islamic banking and finance, venture operations and corporate advisory to businesses in the new economy, Dr Azmir will lead the strategic initiatives to drive LFX to become Asia's premier offshore exchange.
