New ADX Board Directors Strengthen Corporate Mix

Date 29/01/2001

Two highly respected national business executives - who contributed significantly to the direction and continuing success of leading companies AMP and Brambles - have been appointed directors of the Australian Derivatives Exchange (ADX).

Mr Leigh Hall AM and Mr Michael Brown bring skills and expertise in corporate finance and funds management to ADX’s board, which already includes prominent economist, Professor Ian Harper, and Atos Euronext CEO, Mr Dominique Brutin.

“Michael and Leigh both have had long and distinguished careers at the peak of their respective industries,” ADX chairman, Mr Ralph Doubell, said today. “I am delighted to welcome them as directors and know that they will provide insights of great value.”

Leigh Hall

Mr Hall has been a dominant figure in modern Australian funds management. He was synonymous with AMP for a quarter of a century, from 1964 to his retirement in 1999 as deputy managing director of its asset management arm. Currently, he is a director of United Energy, Gove Aluminium, Australian Pacific Airports Corporation, Gresham Technology Management and the Asian Infrastructure Fund.

A participant in national reviews of superannuation and managed investments, Mr Hall chaired the Federal Government’s Corporations Law Simplification Consultative Group. He is treasurer and a former president of the Securities Institute as well as a member of the Companies and Securities Advisory Council.

Michael Brown

Mr Brown is one of Australia’s most experienced chief financial officers. Prior to his recent retirement, he was group finance director of Brambles Industries between 1995 and 2000 as well as director of two international joint ventures. Mr Brown was part of the key management team at Brambles during a period of substantial growth. He currently is a director of James Hardie Industries.

From 1974 to 1991, Mr Brown worked as a financial executive for Exxon in New York, Tokyo, Houston, Kuala Lumpur and Sydney, specialising in planning and development. He became a director of Esso Australia in 1987. Prior to assuming his position at Brambles, Michael further expanded his regional and international contacts as chief financial officer of Renison Goldfields Consolidated and Goodman Fielder.

“ADX now has a strong board of directors with an outstanding breadth of vision and depth of resources,” Mr Doubell said. “The exchange is well served by having such a wealth of talent on hand to help steer its early growth and expansion.”
