This decision was stipulated by Lithuania’s accession to the European Union (EU) as well as aligning of the national legislation and practices with the acquis communautaire, especially in the financial markets sector. The NSEL was granted a Full Member’s status together with other nine stock exchanges of the new EU member-states: Bratislava Stock Exchange, Budapest Stock Exchange, Cyprus Stock Exchange, Ljubljana Stock Exchange, Malta Stock Exchange, Prague Stock Exchange, Riga Stock Exchange, Tallinn Stock Exchange, Warsaw Stock Exchange.
By becoming a Full Member of the FESE, the NSEL will acquire a right to vote at the FESE General Assembly as well as delegate its representatives to the working committees of FESE and participate in creation of the legislation regulating the EU capital market.
FESE currently counts 29 Full Members. The NSEL became a member of the European Stock Exchange Forum of FESE in 1995, a Correspondent Member of FESE in June 2000, and an Associate Member in November 2002.
