Nasdaq Shatters Share Volume Record Also Sets New Record For Transaction Volume

The Nasdaq Stock Market® announced today that it had its biggest share volume day ever, with a preliminary figure of 1,646,000,000 shares traded. Nasdaq's previous record was set yesterday (November 16), with 1,495,994,800 shares changing hands. Six of the 10 highest share volume days in Nasdaq's history have occurred during the past two weeks.
"In the month of November, we've experienced a 35 percent increase over the previous month in the total number of transactions," said Frank G. Zarb, Chairman and CEO, National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD® )-the parent of Nasdaq®. "This is equal to our average increase over each of the past five years."
