Nasdaq Share Volume Record Approaches Two Billion Composite Index Also Climbs To A Record High

The Nasdaq Stock Market® announced today that it experienced its heaviest trading session ever, with preliminary figures showing more than 1.908 billion shares changed hands. Daily volume so far this year has averaged 1.623 billion shares. The Nasdaq Composite® Index also closed at a record high for the third consecutive day. Preliminary data indicates the Composite gained 45.89 points to close at a record high 4235.40. It was the composite's fourth record close of the year. The Nasdaq Stock Market lists nearly 5,000 companies, has a larger dollar volume, and trades more shares per day than any other U.S. market.
