Nasdaq Sets Another Share Volume Record

The Nasdaq Stock Market® today set another new record for total number of shares traded in a single day, with preliminary figures indicating more than 1.668 billion shares changed hands. No other U.S. equities market has ever traded more shares in a single day.
This is the 122nd time this year that Nasdaqâ has traded over one billion shares in a single day. Nasdaq's average daily share volume this year is 1.051 billion, up 31percent over 1998.
The Nasdaq Stock Market lists nearly 5,000 companies, has a larger dollar volume, and trades more shares per day than any other U.S. market.
