Nasdaq Preliminary 2000 First Half Results - Total Dollar Volume Increased 125 Percent Over The First Half Of 1999

The dollar value of shares traded on The Nasdaq Stock Market® increased dramatically in the first half of 2000. Total dollar volume in the first six months of this year climbed 125 percent to $10.8 trillion from $4.8 trillion in the same period in 1999. Nasdaq finished the second quarter and the first half with average daily share volumes of 1.59 billion and 1.70 billion shares, respectively. Nasdaq's heaviest ever trading day occurred in the second quarter, when volume totaled 2.88 billion shares on April 4, 2000. There were a total of 16 two-billion-plus trading sessions on Nasdaq during the first half of the year.
