NASDAQ OMX Commodities Europe Announces Launch Of Electricity Certificates In Mid-2012

Date 21/12/2011

NASDAQ OMX Commodities Europe announces the planned launch of Swedish-Norwegian electricity certificate instruments in mid-2012 for trading and clearing.

The suite of instruments will include physically delivered spot and forward contracts. The exchange traded contracts will initially be denominated in Swedish Kronor while the clearinghouse, NASDAQ OMX Stockholm AB, will offer clearing of OTC traded contracts in Swedish kronor, Norwegian kroner and euro.

The trading and clearing of the electricity certificate instruments will be fully integrated with the clearing of other NASDAQ OMX Commodities Europe products, including Nordic power. This means members of the exchange and clearinghouse will benefit from already existing technical and legal arrangements to trade and clear electricity certificate instruments.

Furthermore, the electricity certificate instruments will be included in the Inter Commodity Spread Credit mechanism, providing margin off-sets and capital efficiencies to members where such apply.

Further contract specifications will be provided at a later stage. The offering described herein is subject to change due to changes in market conditions and other factors which may be outside the control of NASDAQ OMX, and is conditional on necessary regulatory approvals.
