NASDAQ Mourns The Passing Of Its Founder Gordon S. Macklin

Date 31/01/2007

The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. mourns the passing of its founder and past President Gordon S. Macklin.

Mr. Macklin founded NASDAQ in 1971 and served at NASDAQ and the NASD for close to two decades. He served as the President of the NASD from 1970-1987 and served as President of NASDAQ from 1975-1987.

"Gordon Macklin was a great man -- a true business innovator who valued the power of good ideas in both his business life and in his many humanitarian initiatives. Most importantly, he valued family, and we at NASDAQ feel we have lost a member of our family. NASDAQ was created under Gordon's direction, and his keen sense of innovation and his desire to challenge the status quo for a greater good continue to infuse the NASDAQ organization today. He will truly be missed," said Bob Greifeld, President and Chief Executive Officer of NASDAQ.

Following his time at NASDAQ, Mr. Macklin served as Chairman of Hambrecht & Quist, Inc. from 1987-1992 and Chairman of White River Corporation from 1993-1998. Macklin was a corporate financial advisor to many companies and through 2006 served as Managing General Partner, Trustee or Director of 48 funds in the Franklin Templeton Group.

In February 2006, Mr. Macklin joined past NASDAQ CEOs Frank Zarb and Wick Simmons, along with Bob Greifeld at a NASDAQ Opening Bell ceremony to celebrate NASDAQ's 35th anniversary.

Mr. Macklin was a native of Shaker Heights, Ohio and graduated from Brown University in 1950. He is survived by his four children and their families.
