Nasdaq Lead In The UK Grows With 36 Percent Name Recognition
Date 29/02/2000
Independent research carried out by MORI in January has revealed that The Nasdaq Stock Market® has increased its lead as the UK's most recognised stock market with name recognition outstripping any other foreign stock market.
The results show that following the highly successful Nasdaq® advertising campaign, 36 percent of London investors with a household income of over £40,000 are able to name The Nasdaq Stock Market without being prompted. This is significantly ahead of any other foreign market.
Maggie Kelly, Vice President of International Marketing, Nasdaq International Ltd., said today:
"This is a remarkable achievement. Three years ago, Nasdaq was virtually unknown in the UK; now we are the most recognised foreign stock market in the UK by a wide margin. As the equity culture in the UK continues to grow and private investors become increasingly sophisticated, we are seeing growing demand for Nasdaq stocks to become part of investors' portfolios. This demand is the result of the rapidly increasing awareness of The Nasdaq Stock Market."
"The Nasdaq Stock Market aims to provide investors with information on some of the world's fastest growing and successful companies, as well as a host of other supporting information such as news and market data. As new brokering systems designed to allow British retail investors to make cost-effective investments in US stocks come on stream, Nasdaq will continue to work to advance levels of public awareness that allow individuals to make genuinely informed investment decisions, " Kelly added.
The Nasdaq Stock Market lists nearly 5,000 companies, has a larger dollar volume, and trades more shares per day than any other US market. Nasdaq is a subsidiary of the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD®), the largest securities-industry, self-regulatory organization in the United States. For more information on Nasdaq, visit its UK Web site at www.nasdaq.co.uk, or the Nasdaq www.nasdaqnews.com.
The Nasdaq advertising campaign features the history and growth of some of the companies that are listed on The Nasdaq Stock Market. These companies include Staples, Microsoft, Starbucks, Intel, and Oracle.
