NASDAQ Highlights Changes In US Investor Trends And Equity Market Structure And Their Impact On Chinese Companies At The International Finance Forum In Beijing

Date 05/11/2004

The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. (“NASDAQ®”) today announced that it will participate in the International Finance Forum being held on November 10th -13th in Beijing, China.

At the event, Ms. Adena Friedman, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of NASDAQ, will speak about the impact that recent changes in US investor trends and equity market structure are having on Chinese companies.

Ms. Adena Friedman said “Three more companies have listed on the NASDAQ Stock Market in the past two months, bringing the year's total of newly listed companies to eight, and the total number of Mainland Chinese companies listed on NASDAQ to fourteen. We are keen to work together with Chinese regulators and officials and the senior executives of Chinese companies to help them prepare for a U.S. listing. Forums such as the International Finance Forum serve as ideal platform for us to do this.”

Recent listings include China Finance Online, eLong Inc, and 51Job.com Inc, bringing the total market capitalization of Mainland Chinese companies listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange to just under US$10 billion as of November 2nd, 2004.

Ms. Friedman noted as well that a substantial number of Chinese companies are within the forward pipeline of around 120 listing applications currently filed with NASDAQ.

This is the fourth forum of this sort that senior NASDAQ representatives have taken part in over the last quarter, following speaking engagements at the China Hi Tech Fair, in Shenzhen; China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) in Xiamen and at the World Economic Forum's China Business Summit in Beijing.

NASDAQ is the largest U.S. electronic stock market. With approximately 3,300 companies, it lists more companies and, on average, trades more shares per day than any other U.S. market. It is home to companies that are leaders across all areas of business including technology, retail, communications, financial services, transportation, media and biotechnology. NASDAQ is the primary market for trading NASDAQ-listed stocks. For more information about NASDAQ, visit the NASDAQ Web site at www.NASDAQ.com or the NASDAQ Newsroom at www.NASDAQ.com/newsroom/.
