The NASDAQ MarketSite, which made its debut in January of 2000, is the site of daily market opens for NASDAQ listed companies who together with NASDAQ officials open the electronic market to commence trading. The Market Open is broadcasted live each morning on the seven-story NASDAQ Tower, which also showcases NASDAQ market data and content.
“NASDAQ's presence on Times Square has had a significant impact on our listed companies who visit our MarketSite location for Mark Opens, to celebrate major milestones, new product launches, and IPOs,” said Bob Greifeld, president and chief executive officer of The NASDAQ Stock Market.
“By showcasing the companies' logo, celebratory messages, live broadcast interviews, and the live Market Open ceremonies on our Tower, Times Square spectators are able to learn about our listed companies and their major developments,” added Mr. Greifeld. “Times Square has truly emerged as a key central location recognized throughout the world and we are happy to be a part of this neighborhood.”
The millions of daily tourists and spectators in the Times Square vicinity can view the live Market Open from all corners within the Times Square by looking up at the NASDAQ Tower with the closed captions during the ceremony or from the outside of our broadcast studio located at ground level on 43rd and Broadway.
The NASDAQ MarketSite is also a fully equipped broadcast studio, where major television and radio networks report throughout the day to give investors an update on the activity within the NASDAQ market. NASDAQ also rents space to companies looking for a unique Times Square location for a press event, reception, corporate meeting and more. NASDAQ's corporate headquarters are located at Liberty Plaza in downtown New York.
