NASDAQ Announces New Record Market Share In NYSE Listed Securities

The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. (NASDAQ® : NDAQ) today announced a new trading record in NYSE-listed stocks for Friday, March 24, 2006. NASDAQ's matched market share in NYSE-listed securities rose to a single day high of 10.03%, representing an approximate 43% percent spike in NASDAQ's matched market share. NASDAQ reported total volume of 739 million in NYSE-listed stocks on Friday, with an average daily share volume of 487.4 million in February 2006. NASDAQ's total reported market share for March 24 was 30.61%.

NASDAQ's touched market share in NYSE-listed securities on March 24 was 21.53% compared with 17.7% for the month of February. The increase in NASDAQ's market share of NYSE-listed securities can be attributed to the strong demand for automated executions in NYSE-listed stocks.

NASDAQ's total market share in NYSE-listed securities is defined as the total share volume of NYSE-listed securities that are executed on the NASDAQ Market Center, INET and/or Brut books plus internalized volume, as a percentage of total consolidated NYSE market volume.

Matched market share represents total share volume of NASDAQ or NYSE-listed securities that are executed on the NASDAQ Market Center, INET or Brut books as a percentage of total consolidated NASDAQ or NYSE market volume. Touched market share represents total share volume of NASDAQ or NYSE-listed securities that are executed on the NASDAQ Market Center, INET or Brut books plus volume of shares routed to other market centers for execution, as a percentage of consolidated NASDAQ or NYSE market volume.
