NASDAQ Announces Changes To Board Of Directors

Date 08/02/2006

The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. (NASDAQ: NDAQ) announced that Mary Jo White, a partner at the law firm Debevoise & Plimpton and former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, has resigned from the Board of Directors effective today.

Ms. White's resignation follows the appointment of her husband, John W. White, as Director of the Division of Corporation Finance at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

“We certainly understand Ms. White's decision to resign to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest in light of her husband's appointment,” said Robert Greifeld, President and CEO of NASDAQ. “NASDAQ will miss her expertise and the high level of diligence and professionalism with which she performed. Ms. White was an accomplished Board member, who always acted in the best interest of NASDAQ, its shareholders and the investing public.”

Ms. White is currently the Chair of the Litigation Department of Debevoise & Plimpton. She previously served as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York from June 1993 to January 2002. She was the first and only woman to serve at the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, widely recognized as the premier U.S. Attorney's office in the country. As U.S. Attorney, Ms. White supervised more than 200 Assistant U.S. Attorneys with the responsibility of enforcing the federal criminal and civil laws of the nation. Ms. White also served as the first Chairperson of Attorney General Janet Reno's Advisory Committee of U.S. Attorneys from all over the country.
