Multi Commodity Exchange Of India Weekly Market Report – October 20-26, 2006 - MCX Agrindex Closes At 1,666.95 - Up 46.37 Points

The MCX COMDEX closed at 2,150.91 up 28.60 points during the course of the week; while the MCX Agri Index closed at 1,666.95 up 46.37 points; MCX Energy Index closed at 2,295.10 up 44.28 points and MCX Metal Index closed at 2,490.69 down 2.12 points. The Exchange has recorded a total weekly turnover of Rs. 35,209.74 crore for the period October 20-26, 2006.

In the bullion segment, all MCX Gold contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 15,399.29 crore, while all MCX Silver contracts have recorded a turnover of Rs. 9561.18 crore. The outstanding open interest for all MCX Gold contracts was 19,611.2 kgs and the total volume recorded was 175,250 kgs. The total volume of all Silver contracts recorded was 5,273,260 kgs. The outstanding position for all MCX Silver contracts for the week was 328,320 kgs.

In the metal segment, all MCX Copper contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 3142.53 crore with open interest of 11,581 tons and recorded total volume of 91,044 tons; while all MCX Zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs. 869.93 crore, with open interest of 8,830 tons and recorded 47,710 tons as total volume.

In the energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 3546.54 crore with open interest of 1,141,700 barrels and recorded total volume of 12,918.000 barrels; while all MCX natural gas contracts recorded a turnover of Rs. 947 06 crore, with open interest of 1,843,000 mmbtu and recorded 25,609,000 mmbtu as total volume.

Some of the other major agri-commodities traded on MCX registered the following turnover -

• All Guarseed contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 110.79 crore, with open interest of 5900 tons and total volume recorded was 55420 tons.
• All MCX Mentha Oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 627.64 crore, with open interest of 2761.92 tons and total volume recorded was 8966.16 tons.
• All MCX Refined Soy Oil contracts with open interest of 40,230 tons registered a turnover of Rs. 483.75 crore and total volume recorded was 113,110 tons.
• All MCX Potato contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 39.73 crore, with open interest of 26,100 tons and total volume recorded was 74,820 tons.
