Montreal Exchange Signs An Agreement With Euronext To Use NSC System

Date 10/03/2000

In connection with its partnership in the GLOBEX® Alliance announced on September 14, 1999, the Montreal Exchange announces an agreement with Euronext, an affiliate of ParisBourse SBF SA, for the use of the NSC electronic trading platform starting next fall.

The partners in the GLOBEX® Alliance, the derivative markets' network comprising the Montreal Exchange, Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), ParisBourse SBF SA, Singapore Exchange (formerly Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX), and the Bolsa de Mercadorias & Futures (BM&F) of Brazil, all use the NSC system, along with more than 15 other exchanges around the world, which makes ParisBourse SBF SA the world leader in designing and marketing electronic trading systems.

'We are very pleased with this agreement, which confirms our joining the GLOBEX® Alliance. With this state-of-the-art system, the Montreal Exchange will be able to offer its members electronic access to all its products and increase their visibility in other markets. This new partnership is just one of our various initiatives to make the Montreal Exchange a world class derivatives market,' said Gérald A. Lacoste, President and CEO of the Montreal Exchange.

'ParisBourse is particularly pleased that the Montreal Exchange, which is the benchmark for derivatives in Canada, is now a NSC user and a partner in the GLOBEX® Alliance,' said Jean-François Théodore, President and CEO of ParisBourse SBF SA.

Each of the partners in the GLOBEX® Alliance will soon have direct access to all the products traded on all five markets, which will harmonize their market regulations. The ultimate goal of the five partners is to give their members cross margining possibilities to reduce their treasury fees and those of their clients.

The Montreal Exchange is the Canadian derivatives exchange™. It was founded more than 125 years ago and has always played a leading local, national and international role. It was the first Canadian exchange to list options and subsequently established a major futures market. It offers both individual and institutional investors a full range of products that are adapted to market needs and are now accessible world-wide.

ParisBourse SBF SA is the operator of the French stock and derivatives market. It is the leading exchange in continental Europe in terms of capitalization and transaction volume. Through its Euronext affiliate, it is also the world leader in the design and marketing of electronic transaction systems.
