Monthly Trading Statements For BME Markets The Spanish Stock Exchange Traded Over € 1 Trillion To November, 31% Up On The Same Period 2005

  • Record high for equities trading: in November the value of trading on SIBE was € 122.83 bn posting year on year increase of 78%
  • MEFF trading amounted to 3.6 million, 82% up on the same month in 2005. Highlights include trading in Stock Futures at 1.2 million contracts, 358% up on the year.

Equities

In November trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE increased by 78% on the year to €122.83 bn, the highest monthly figure ever posted by the market. The number of trades exceeded 2.5 million, 80% up on November 2005 and a monthly record high.

The accumulated value of trading posted from the beginning of the year was € 1.03 trillion, 31% up on the same period last year. The number of trades during the first eleven months was over 20.8 million, 32% up on the same period last year.

The value of trading on Latibex in November came in at € 57 million. Between January and November the value of trading was € 674 million, 37% up on the same period last year. The number of trades grew by over 47% during the period.

As for the exchange traded funds segment, the effective trading volume posted in November was € 493 million, 32% up on October.

The return on the IBEX 35® index was 0.70% in November, bringing the accumulated return on the index from January to 29.02%. The return on the IBEX 35® with dividends in the same period was 33.19%. The return on the IBEX MEDIUM CAP® and IBEX SMALL CAP® indices in the first eleven months was 35.62% and 51.54% respectively. The accumulated return on the FTSE Latibex Top was 9.78% and that on the FTSE Latibex Brasil 13.78%.

Warrants and Certificates

Trading volumes on the warrants and certificates market in November was € 327 million, 83% up on November 2005. The number of trades amounted to 52,672, representing a 63% increase on the same period last year and a new record high.

The accumulated figure to November was € 2.73 bn, 32% up on the same period last year. The accumulated number of trades grew by 35% on the same period last year to 445,759.

Futures and options

Trading volume in MEFF Options and Futures in November was 3.63 million contracts, 82% up on the same period last year. It is worth mentioning the heavy trading in Stock Futures, at 1.19 million contracts, 358% up on the year and IBEX 25 Options, at 620,582 contracts, 149% up on November 2005.

Trading volume for the IBEX 35 Future, MEFF’s flagship product, came in at 614,548 contracts, 43% up on the year.

The value of trading to November on MEFF was 41 million contracts, 22% up on the same period 2005.

Corporate Debt

The value of corporate debt trading on AIAF in November hit a record high at € 83.32 bn, 15.4% on the same month last year. The increase in trading has been particularly noticeable on the expiry dates, which increased by 42.5%. The figure for the first eleven months of the year is € 813.97bn.

New issues admitted to trading on the Corporate Debt market in November amounted to € 47.527 bn, 28% up on November 2005.

The outstanding balance at the end of November was € 574.49 bn, 35.4% up on last year. At the end of November net financing reached € 132.07 bn, 13.6% on the year.

SENAF

In November trading volume on the public debt trading platform SENAF was € 15.12 bn, which represents a market share of 72.45% of the total trading volume posted by all domestic electronic trading platforms, a 26% increase on the previous month.
