Monthly Trading Statements For BME Markets - The Spanish Stock Exchange Traded € 102.19 Bn In September, Reaching The Highest Ever Trading Volume

  • In September trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE was 39% up on the same month in 2005.
  • The value of trading on Latibex in September came in at € 51 million, 9% more than in the same month last year and exceeding the annual figure for 2005.
  • Trading on MEFF in September was 5.4 million contracts. It is worth mentioning the trading in IBEX 35 Futures, with 583,418 contracts and 38% up on the year.
  • Trading volume in SENAF at the expiry date was doubled in September compared to same month last year, at € 14.39 bn.

Equities

In September trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to €102.19 bn, which represents a year on year increase of 39% and represents the highest monthly figure ever posted by the market. The number of trades was €1.9 million.

The accumulated value posted from the beginning of the year was € 797.68 bn, 25% up on the year. The number of trades during this period increased over 25%.

The value of trading on Latibex in September came in at € 51 million, 9% up on the year. Between January and September the value of trading was € 559 million. This figure represents a 46% increase on the same period last year and is higher than that posted all through 2005. The number of trades grew by over 57%.

As for the exchange traded funds segment, the effective trading volume posted in September was € 317 million on 2,699 trades.

The return on the IBEX 35® index was 6.5% in September, bringing the accumulated return on the index from January to 20.5%. The return on the IBEX 35® with dividends in the same period was 23.62%. The return on the IBEX MEDIUM CAP® and IBEX SMALL CAP® indices in the first nine months was 25.12% and 30.9% respectively.

The accumulated return on the FTSE Latibex Top was 2.37%

Warrants and Certificates

Trading volumes on the warrants and certificates market in September was € 214 million and the number of trades amounted to 34,590.

The accumulated figure to September was € 2.10 bn, 24% on the same period last year and the number of trades grew by 31%.

Futures and options

Trading volume in MEFF Options and Futures in September was 5.3 million contracts. It is worth mentioning the heavy trading in IBEX 35 Futures, the market’s flagship product, with 538,418 contracts, 38% up on the same month 2005. Also important was the trading in Mini IBEX Futures, with 116,904 contracts and a 25% year on year increase.

The value of trading to September on MEFF was 34.4 million contracts, 16% up on the same period 2005.

Corporate Debt

New issues admitted to trading on the Corporate Debt market amounted to € 34.32 bn, leaving an accumulated trading volume of € 372.23 bn and a 25.4% increase compared to 2005.

Net financing provided for the private sector through AIAF was € 106.17 bn at the end of September, 20% up on the same period last year. The outstanding balance at the end of September was € 548.59 bn, a third more than last year.

The value of trading on AIAF in September was € 64.69 bn and the figure for the first 9 months of the year is € 632.69 bn, 4.5% less than last year.

SENAF

In September trading volume on the public debt trading platform SENAF all but doubled the value of trading in bonds, obligations and bills at the expiry date, reaching € 14.39 bn and posting a 96% increase compared to the same month last year.

The value of trading including repos transactions reached € 19.74 bn, 22.8% up on the same month last year. This figure represents a market share of 69.7% in the total trading volume posted by all domestic electronic trading platforms.
