Equities
The trading volume to the end of August in the Spanish Stock Exchange totalled €679.83bn, up 19% from the same period a year earlier. The equity trading volume in August came in at €53.6bn, down 3.6% from the same month a year earlier.
The number of trades in the first eight months of 2010 totalled 26.38 million, up 31% from the same period a year earlier. The number of trades in August came in at 2.44 million, up 6.2% from the same month in 2009.
The trading volume on the ETF segment in August came in at €275 million, up 34% from August 2009 and in the first eight months of the year it totalled €4.95 billion, up 136% from the same period last year.
In August the number of trades on the ETF segment to was up 14.3% from the same month in 2009, at 4,056. The number of trades to the end of August totalled 48,953, up 54% from the same period a year earlier.
Futures and Options
In August trading on MEFF, BME’s Derivatives Market, came in at 3.24 million contracts. During the first eight months of 2010 MEFF has reached a volume of 42.21 million contracts.
During the first eight months of the year MEFF has traded 4.41 million contracts of IBEX 35 Futures, up 20.3% from the same period a year earlier and 2.63 million contracts of Mini IBEX 35 Futures, up 20%. Highlights include Options on Stocks, with 2.26 million contracts traded in August and 23.58 million from January to August, up 16% from the same first eight months a year earlier,
Warrants and Certificates
The number of warrants issued to the end of August in 2010 totalled 4,836.
Trading volume in August on the warrants and certificates market came in at €134 million, up 16% from the same month a year earlier. The number of trades was 23,011, up 2.1% from the same period a year ago.
The trading volume to the end of August totalled €1.12 billion, down 12.3% from the same period in 2009. The number of trades was similar to that of the same period a year earlier, at 247,878.
Corporate Debt
Corporate Debt trading on BME’s Market, AIAF, in August totalled €308.50bn, up 35.6% from the same period a year earlier and it is the highest monthly figure of 2010. The trading volume to the end of August reached €1.84 trillion, down 30% from the same period a year earlier.
New issues in August came in at €25.30bn, up 58% from the same month in 2009. New issues to the end of August totalled €161.53bn, down 46.2% from the same period in 2009. The outstanding balance of Corporate Debt at the end of August was €862.27 bn.
In August trading on BME’s Public Debt electronic platform reached €30.05bn, up 255% year on year.
