  • In August the share trading turnover for a single month reached a year high of SEK 10 503 million per day. In addition the number of closed transactions reached a year high of 39 856 per day.
  • On August 21, SAX- and OMX-index reached a new year high, the index change in August was + 3 % and so far this year +19%.
Share trading

The average share trading turnover per business day amounted to SEK 10 503 million during August (during the past 12-month period: 9 194). In July 2003 the average share trading turnover per business day amounted to SEK 8 315 million. The average number of closed transactions per business day has been 39 856 during August (during the past 12-month period: 39 079).

The turnover rate in August was 127% (during the past 12-month period: 125%).

Derivative trading

Average derivative trading turnover (Swedish share and interest-rate related contracts) amounted in August to 284 622 contracts (during the past 12-month period 277 061) per business day. The average derivative trading turnover amounted in July to 220 839 per business day. The average number of contracts in share-related derivative products amounted in August to 260 785 contracts (during the past 12-month period 250 506) per business day, while the average number of contracts in interest-rate related derivative products amounted in August to 23 838 contracts (during the past 12-month period 26 555) per business day.

The total value of trade in stock options amounted in August to SEK 40.0 (during the past 12-month 45.7) million per day. The total value of trade in stocks options amounted in July to SEK 27.2 million per day.

Warrants trading

The average warrants trading turnover per business day amounted to SEK 28 399 thousand in August (during the past 12-month period: 25 106). In July 2003 the average warrants trading turnover per business day amounted to SEK 20 603 thousand.

Index developments

The OMX index increased in August by 2.7% and closed on 586.4 (31 July 2003: 571.0). The Benchmark index closed on 207.5 as of 29 August (31 July 2003: 200.5), which is an increase of 3.5%. The SX All-share index (the SAX index) closed on 177.7 (31 July 2003: 171.8), which corresponds to an increase of 3.4% during the month.

The Information Technology Index increased most during the month and closed on 135.2 (31 July 2003: 124.3), which is an increase of 8.8%. The Telecommunication Services Index decreased most during the month and closed on 482.5 (31 July 2003: 486.2), which is a decrease of 0.8%.

List changes

Stocks

In August, one company has been listed on the O-list. The number of listed companies on Stockholmsbörsen (incl. Xternal list) is 284, of which 58 are listed on the A-list and 225 on the O-list. Total market value for the companies on the A-list amounts to SEK 1 654 billion, and on the O-list to SEK 454 billion. Total market value ( incl. Xternal list) amounted to SEK 2 115 billion as of 29 August 2003 (31 July 2003: 2 046).

Bonds

During August four new bonds have been registered on the SOX-list and eleven new bonds have been registered on the Monthly list of bonds.

Warrants

During August 39 new warrants have been listed.

Market Surveillance

Stockholmsbörsen has in August referred two cases of suspected illegal insider trading to the Financial Supervisory Authority.

One company has been placed at the Observation segment of the O-list.
