The net outflow of foreign investments in the Brazilian Stock Market accounted to USD 1,517,677,922.62 in 2008. This figure sums up the purchases of international investors in public offerings – whose total amount is USD 7,242,787,212.10 - as well as the net trading value at BOVESPA’s Secondary Market – that registered an outflow of USD 8,760,465,134.67, as of July 31, 2008.
In July, international investors’ total purchase at BM&FBOVESPA’s Secondary Market on Equity was USD 25,054,907,957.00 and total sales of USD 29,835,640,588.00. This balance totals a net outflow of USD 4,780,732,631.00.

Trading Value and Number of Trades
In July, the total trading value of the Stock Market was BRL 124.2 billion (or USD 78.1 billion).
The daily average was BRL 5.6 billion (or USD 3.5 billion) and the number of trades was 228,974. For comparison purposes, June registered BRL 6.3 billion (or USD 3.9 billion) as financial value daily traded with 226,410 trades.
The most active stocks in terms of trading value were:
- Petrobras PN (BRL 18.0 billion or USD 11.3 billion);
- Vale R Doce PNA (BRL 17.3 billion or USD 10.9 billion);
- Vale R. Doce ON (BRL 4.3 billion or USD 2.7 billion);
- Sid Nacional ON (BRL 4.0 billion or USD 2.5 billion) and
- Bradesco PN (BRL 3.9 billion or USD 2.4 billion).
In July, the International Investors’ stake reached 35% of the total trading value of the Stock Market, compared to 37% registered in June. Institutional investors traded 29% of the turnover (against 26%), followed by Individuals, with 24.5% (against 24.4%); Financial Institutions, with 9.1% (against 8.8%); and Companies, with 2%, (against 3%).
The Home Broker system reached the following performance in July:
- The daily average trading value registered BRL 1.2 billion
- The daily number of trades reached 117.289 (this figures consider all trades with one side, at least, executed via home broker).
- Total traded value amounted to BRL 25.8 billion
- 2.6 million total number of trades
- The average financial value per trade was BRL 10.0 thousand
The After Market totalled 74.270 trades and BRL 731,003,236.02 as financial value this month.
In July, BM&FBOVESPA listed companies’ market capitalization amounted to BRL 2.1 trillion (or USD 1.4 trillion); in June, this figure was BRL 2.4 trillion (or USD 1.5 trillion).
Novo Mercado and Levels of Corporate Governance
The 165 companies listed at Level 1, Level 2 and Novo Mercado by the end of July represented 62% of BM&FBOVESPA listed companies’ total market capitalization, 72% of the trading value and 75% of the number of trades in the cash market.
IronX Mineracao S.A. and LLX Logistica S.A. joined Novo Mercado in July.
The Cash Market was responsible for 93% of the total traded value in July, followed by the Forward (4%) and Options (3%) markets.
IbovespaThe Ibovespa benchmark closed July down 8.4% at 59,505 points.

In July, IEE ended stable, at 19,167 points. Other indices closed the month down: IBrX-50 (-11.5% at 8,662 points); IBrX-100 (-10.7% at 19,366 points); ISE (-8.2% at 1,863 points); INDX (-7.9% at 9,750 points); IGC (-6.0% at 5,978 points); ITAG (-3.6% at 7,680 points); ITEL (-3.5% at 1,209 points); and IVBX-2 (-2.8% at 5,170 points).
In July, 3 Corporate Bonds and 1 FDIC (Receivable Investment Fund) started to trade at BOVESPA Fix and SOMA Fix Markets. The trading value of BM&FBOVESPA’s Corporate Fixed Income markets turned over BRL 118,865,442.53 (or USD 74,100,724.30).
Out of this total, BRL 33,339,577.73 (or USD 20,907,141.99) referred to FIDCs and BRL 85,525,864.80 (or USD 353,193582.31) to Corporate Bonds.
The Securities Lending Program – BTC registered a turnover of BRL 32.5 billion and registered 56,759 trades in July, representing 255 underlying securities.
By the end of July, the Brazilian Clearing and Depository Corporation registered 528,769 active individual investor’s custody accounts; by the end of June, this number was 516,757.
BOVESPA Popularization Campaign
In July, 79 new investment clubs have registered with BM&FBOVESPA. The year 2008 already counts on 617 new investment clubs. BM&FBOVESPA had 2,650 clubs registered as of July 2008.
