Monthly Performance: BOVESPA's Market Balance In August

Foreign Investment Balance
The Brazilian Stock Exchange (BOVESPA) ended August with a deficit in the foreign investment inflow which amounted to R$ 120,762,499.00 , resulting from stock purchases of R$ 12,218,216,790.00 and sales of R$ 12,338,979,289.00. BOVESPA's year-to-date balance on foreign capital stands at R$ 2,886,773,584.00, as of August 31.

Trading Value
In August, BOVESPA turned over R$ 36.94 billion compared to R$ 28.23 billion in the previous month. The daily average stood at 62,340 trades worth R$ 1.60 billion, compared to 57,346 trades worth R$ 1.34 billion registered in July. The Open Outcry was responsible for 2.92% of the total value, while the exchange's Megabolsa electronic system, for 97.08%.

Home Broker Stake
In August, Home Broker system set a record by registering 36,899 trades against 30,521 in the previous month. The average trading value amounted to R$ 8,407.50, totalizing R$ 3.95 billion in transactions carried out by the 44 Brokerage Firms that currently provide this service. The Home Broker's participation on BOVESPA's total result stood at 16.80% in number of trades and at 5.97% in terms of financial turnover.

Investors Groups
The monthly trading turnover was pushed by foreign investors, who led transactions with a 33.28% stake against 34.7% in July. Institutional Investors ranked second with a 26.69% participation compared to 27% registered in the previous month, followed by Individuals with 25.67% (against 25.1%); Financial Institutions, 12.48% (against 11.1%); Companies, 1.76% (against 2.0%); and Other Groups, which remained with a 0.1% stake.

Markets
Cash Market was responsible for 92.1% of the total value registered in August, followed by Options Market (5%) and Forward Market (2.9%). After Market amounted to 11,881 trades worth R$ 103,106,215.70, against 8,089 transactions worth R$ 66,911,384.74 registered in the previous month.

Securities Trading
In August, the most active stocks in terms of trading value were: Petrobras PN (R$ 3.38 billion); Telemar PN (R$ 2.51 billion); Vale do Rio Doce PNA (R$ 2.21 billion); Itaubanco PN (R$ 1.64 billion); and Usiminas PNA (R$ 1.64 billion).

Ibovespa
The benchmark Ibovespa stock index, compound of the 55 most traded stocks on BOVESPA, closed August up 7.6% at 28,044 points. The best performing stocks in the period were NET PN (38%), TIM Part ON (37.4%), Brasil T Par ON (20.9%), Unibanco Unit (20.8%) and Bradesco PN (20.5%), while the worst performing stocks were Light ON (-12.4%), Tele Leste CL PN (-9.4%), Telesp PN (-8,6%), Telesp CL Part. PN (-6.0%) and Tractebel ON (-5.5%).

Other Indices
The following indices also presented positive performance in August: ITAG - Special Tag Along Stock Index (up 11.9% at 3,789 points); IBrX-50 - Brazil Index 50 (10.2% at 4,045 points); IBrX-100 - Brazil Index (9.8% at 8,915 points); IGC - Corporate Governance Index (9.7% at 2,908 points); IVBX-2 - Valor BOVESPA Index (5.9% at 2,955 points); IEE - Electric Power Index (2.7% at 8,112 points); and ITEL - Telecommunication Sector Index (0.2% at 814 points).

Fixed Income
In August, 14 new fixed income securities have started to be traded: 8 Receivables Investment Funds (FIDCs), 4 Corporate Bonds and 2 Real Estate Backed Securities (CRIs). The secondary corporate bond markets - BovespaFix and SomaFix – turned over R$ 119,974,869.51 compared to R$ 204,247,839.72 registered in the previous month. Out of this total, R$ 95,840,517.46 referred to FIDC; and R$ 6,204,289.69 to Corporate Bonds.
