The Value Of Equity Turnover On The Spanish Stock Exchange In 2007 Was €1.7 Trillion, 45% Up On 2006
- In December trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE was €107.10bn on over 2.4 million trades.
- The annual trading figures posted by MEFF reached a new high at 51.9 million Options and Futures contracts, 10% up on 2006.
- Trading volume on the Corporate Debt market in 2007 came in at € 1.10 trillion, 23.1% up on 2006.
Equities
In December trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to €107.10bn. The number of trades during the same period was €2.4 million, 19% up on the year.
The annual turnover was €1.7 trillion, 45% up on 2006. The number of trades during this period was 34.5 million, 51% up on the previous year. Both figures are the highest ever posted in the history of the Spanish stock exchange.
The value of trading on Latibex in December was 19% higher than that posted in December 2006. The value of trading on Latibex up to end of December was 14% up on that for 2006, hitting a new annual record high in trading volume since the market was created.
As for the exchange traded funds segment, the effective trading volume posted in December was €359 million. The value of trading for its first full year of operations, which started in July 2006, totaled €4.66bn.
Warrants and Certificates
Turnover on the warrants and certificates market in December was €232 million, 2% up on the same month in 2006. The number of trades amounted to 47,177, which represents a 26% increase on December 2006.
Turnover for the year 2007 totaled €5.17bn on 839,287 trades, posting increases of 75% and 74% on 2006 respectively. These figures represent annual record highs on this market.
Futures and options
Trading volume in Options and Futures in December was 8.579,181 contracts, 46% up on December 2006. It is worth mentioning the heavy trading in stock futures, with 5,556,574 contracts traded, 68% up on the same month 2006 and in stock options, with 1,654,493 contracts traded and a year on year increase of 40%.
The annual trading figures for MEFF, BME’s Derivatives business area, reached a record high in 2007, with 51.9 million contracts traded and a 10% increase on 2006.
By product it is worth mentioning the annual trading volume posted by IBEX 35 Futures, MEFF’s flagship product, with 8.4 million contracts, 32% up on 2006 and Mini IBEX Futures, with 2.9 million contracts and a 79% increase on the year. Both figures represent record highs on this market.
Corporate Debt
The value trading on the Corporate Debt market in 2007 came in at €1.10 trillion, 23.1% more than in 2006. The value of trading on this market in December was € 95.09bn.
New issues admitted to trading on this market in 2007 totaled € 641.06bn, 26.1% up on 2006.
The outstanding debt on this market at year-end 2007 was € 758.56bn, 28.8% up on the previous year. Net financing provided for the private sector through the Corporate Debt market in 2007 came in at € 169.61bn, 15.2% up on 2006.
SENAF
In 2007 trading volume on BME’s Public Debt trading platform, SENAF, was € 96.60bn, which represents a 53.67% of the trading conducted on the domestic platforms.
