Mondo Visione Exchange Forum 2016 – Market Centres Post Brexit And Post US Election - Dealing With A More Uncertain World

Date 10/10/2016

The 2016 Exchange Forum will be held on 10 November in London. It will be the first markets conference post Brexit and post the US election.

Financial markets have largely stabilised after the turmoil in the days after the UK’s EU referendum on 23 June, but the vote for the UK to leave the European Union was a truly seismic event, the reverberations of which will likely be felt throughout business and economic life and for decades to come.

Markets across the globe have become more integrated. Developments in one market now appear to have larger effects on other markets than was generally the case historically.

These effects are transmitted via many linkages, not just through trade and financial markets.

It is uncertain where the next shock to markets will come from, A faster Fed hiking cycle than the market is expecting, US election uncertainty, turmoil in banks in Germany, Italy and Portugal, with harder versions of Brexit likely to be associated with more substantial reassessments of growth prospects and asset prices for both the U.K. and the EU being just a few of the known unknowns.

This year’s Exchange Forum will be chaired by Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli. We shall be looking at whether the medieval Hanseatic League offers any lessons from the past to this post-Brexit world; trading across border; looking beyond the hype at blockchain; the evolution of FX trading platforms; the disruptive change in financial markets driven by FinTech; post-trade and of course, the business of Exchange Groups.

Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli commented:

“As Europe faces post-Brexit challenges, particularly in finance, there is much to learn from the successes and failures of the Hanseatic League’s direct city-state cooperation and competition.”

Herbie Skeete, Founder and Managing Director of Mondo Visione said:

“The remarkable growth demonstrated by leading exchanges has been a tribute to the management of these businesses. It remains to be seen how this sector will cope with the current economic climate, but the transformation of exchanges to businesses has been successfully accomplished.”

The Mondo Visione Exchange Forum will be held at The Dutch Church, a beautifully renovated church in the heart of the City of London. The history of the Dutch Church dates back to 1550 when Edward VI gave permission to the Dutch, French and Flemish refugees to take shelter and live in the Church. The original building was sketched by Dutch Master Van Gogh during his time in London at the end of the 1800s.
