Poetry Day Ireland was launched today by Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys TD at the Irish Stock Exchange (ISE). The Minister read Seamus Heaney’s poem ‘Midnight Anvil’ at a ceremonial opening of the day’s trading on the market floor of the ISE.
Poetry Day Ireland celebrates the vital role that poetry plays in Irish life, from sporting occasions to commerce, in good times and hard times. More than 50 events are taking place today throughout the island of Ireland to connect people and poetry and to celebrate the lives of Irish poets, both past and present, through the reading, writing and performance of poetry.
Poetry Day Ireland is organised by Poetry Ireland.
